About us

After many years of experiencing and observing the teaching of English, I believe that I could modify and improve upon what I had seen elsewhere. So I opened a small language school to teach English to adults as well as children and aimed at any level from beginner to advanced.

From 3 rooms and 4 teachers in 1986 we developed into a language school with a difference - full of warmth and love, welcoming all who are keen to learn and progress and encouraging students to learn at their own pace whilst expressing themselves freely.

I believed, and still believe, that our small democratic community can help foster change and improvement in our wider society.

In 1988 the school expanded when we won a contract to teach English in comprehensive schools and in the same year the institute was designated an English Examination Centre for Oxford University, England.

By 1991 we had started a student exchange programme with schools in Denver Colorado. Links with the US Department of Education followed and this has ensured that the most up-to-date educational programmes are available at the institute.

In 1993 the teacher training course at Stael Ruffinelli de Ortiz - English was validated internationally by Trinity College London, The British Association of TESOL Qualifying Institutions (BATQI), the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the Further Education National Training Organization (FENTO).

Trinity College London awards its Certificate in TESOL for those who gain a valid first qualification as a teacher, intending to enter the profession and teach English as a foreign language either in Paraguay or abroad. The institute also became a centre for Trinity oral examinations.

Today Stael Ruffinelli de Ortiz English continues to set high standards and achieve excellent results for its students as well as making a substantial contribution to the upgrading of skills and the professional development of language teachers and school teachers.
